Therefore, the Institute is part of a broad network of philanthropic organizations dedicated to creating solutions to the climate crisis.
IPC Pledge
As asset managers and investors who are part of the Investors for Climate (IPC) initiative, we recognize that climate change presents unprecedented challenges due to the risks it poses. However, it also unveils opportunities that can have significant impacts on the global population.
We also recognize that these risks and opportunities stem from various sources, including the economic system, the job creation and production capabilities of companies, and the potential for a significant repricing of the securities issued by these companies that we manage and hold.
As fiduciaries, we are committed to ensuring the security, resilience, and continuity of our clients and beneficiaries investments. We also have a responsibility towards our stakeholders, and as an institution, to contribute to a safer future for the generations to come.
Therefore, given the reality of the Brazilian capital market, we seek to mitigate risks and increase opportunities related to climate change through two guidelines to be implemented by 2021:
- We commit to publicly reporting our progress in managing climate-related risks and opportunities within our invested portfolios. Whenever feasible, our reporting will be aligned with the guidelines of the Task Force on Climate-Related Financial Disclosures (TCFD);
- We commit to carrying out active ownership activities on this theme, with at least one investee or asset manager per year, addressing climate change in their policies and practice. The activities can involve engagement – as an institution or collectively – through a relationship with management and the Investor Relations department, and the exercise of our voting right at Shareholder, Quota Holder and Debenture Holder Meetings.
We remain committed to collaborating on climate-focused portfolio management in Brazil, with the aim of not only elevating this issue within the financial market, of which we are a part, but also promoting its importance across society as a whole. In this way, we aim to contribute to the objectives of the Paris Agreement and Brazil’s Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) in reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
